AUSMELT wished to examine how their processes compared to other copper smelting technologies on the market with a view to improving their overall sustainability performance. The study provided a benchmark for the environmental impact of different blister copper producing technologies used in a number of countries. The study included the upstream impacts of the fuels used in the smelting process and of country specific power generation.
