The EPIC-ICT (Development of Environmental Performance Indicators for ICT Products) is an EU-funded Scientific Support to Policies project (FP6-513673). It is being carried out by PE Europe and IKP (University of Stuttgart), Motorola, Dell, Philips and Ambiente Italia, using the example of a personal computer. The indicators developed will make it easier to define technical product properties, e.g. clock rates or power demand. Based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), environmental indicators will be determined to support decision-makers and enhance eco-design.
The method combines scientific soundness, public acceptance and practical applicability. It supports the implementation of the Energy-using Products Directive (EuP), in particular by outlining measures for this implementation.
