“I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship”
Humphey Bogart, Casablanca
It is a beautiful friendship indeed, the combination of the superb Life Cycle expertise of PE INTERNATIONAL with the strategic
sustainability consultancy of Five Winds. With both Companies deployed in an integrated way in PE Americas they have created a
unique arrangement. PE Americas is able to support clients across the full range of sustainability challenges and provides services
as a truly one-shop, sustainability consultancy. Our services include sustainability strategy and benchmarking of companies profile
against their stakeholders’ expectations, to sustainability action plans, tools for corporate sustainability management and
reporting and product sustainability assessment.
To underpin all of this, we can draw from a team of more than 100 experts, including Five Winds, PE Americas and PE International
who cover all main economic sectors, from agriculture to zinc, most environmental issues, from aquatic toxicity to waste management
and have literally written the book on Life Cycle Assessment and Sustainability.
The expertise, tools and experience being deployed by PE Americas have not gone unnoticed by the American market. Since inception
we have grown more than 100% each year and the expectation is that this level of growth will continue in 2008. Companies like
Kraft, Levi Strauss & Co or Armstrong, amongst many others are working with us, not just on product sustainability, using LCAs,
but also at a corporate and organizational level, with corporate sustainability projects.
It is truly exciting times for sustainability in America.
Best regards,
Nuno da Silva

See study now online! Renewable raw materials have high potential for energy saving and for CO2 reduction. Their use is often
underestimated because a lot of products cannot be directly identified as being produced from renewable resources. On behalf of the
German Agency for Renewable Resources, a study was conducted to evaluate the environmental performance of renewables in material
use and to develop recommendations for their sustainable use.

Landis+Gyr classifies itself as „Green /Clean Tech“- company with the support of Smart Metering, a key technology for enhanced
energy efficiency (electricity, gas, heating and water). It is a company that wants to compete and set its own standards.
Landis+Gyr started the determination of the companywide „Carbon Footprint“ with the help of a “Corporate Carbon Footprint Analysis”
in March using the methodology provided by the „GreenHouseGas protocol“(GHG). In order to satisfy the highest standards, the
analysis was also based on the environmental standards ISO14044 as well as GRI-G3.
PE’ s project director Wolfram Scharnhorst described the procedure, explaining that “In the first instance, all GHG relevant
emissions of Landis+Gyr’s corporate activities were identified and assigned – the so called „Concept of Scopes“.

Everyone who has regarded sustainability management (and reporting) as largely a European and North American activity to date will
have to change his/her opinion after the latest GRI conference, The country of origin of the companies receiving the Reader’s
Choice Awards – Latin America and Asia - as well as the formation of the Arab sustainability leadership group are clear hints that
other regions are catching up fast. This development is encouraging given the fact that most sustainability issues are global ones:
socially and environmentally acceptable supply chains, climate change etc.
