Dear reader,
|
|
| |
Climate Change strategies are entering the board rooms in the Nordic European countries and the UK in especially. Investors,
customers and other stakeholders have high expectations when it comes to the companies´ ability to handle and manage their impact
on climate change. Carbon management from the calculation of company and product specific footprints, to carbon reduction,
offsetting and communicating has suddenly become a key aspect in order to stay competitive.
PE is experiencing an increasing interest and rapidly growing client base in the North West European region, and hence we have
decided to establish a new subsidiary with offices in the UK and Denmark to be able to better support clients in this region.
The cover story tackling the causes and future development of the carbon hype, the interview with Paul Dickinson, CEO of the Carbon
Disclosure Project, and the report of the activities of Bayer provide deeper insight into this movement.
Cordially,
Jan Poulsen
Managing Director of PE NWE

The carbon hype approaches the tipping point - a societal revolution?
|
|
| |
|
By Michael Betz, Managing Director of PE INTERNATIONAL
Low carbon economies, replacing fossil energy by regenerative power, a breakthrough in energy efficiency and dematerialisation –
this has been a vision held by a few prophets for 30 years or more, but nothing significant happened.
These days however, we are witnesses to a very exciting and critical moment in history:

AT&T Calling: LCA the Topic!
|
|
| |
|
| Roland Geyer (center) and Vered Doctori Blass (left) are congratulated by Colin Petheram, AT&T |
|
|
Assistant professor Roland Geyer received one of three prestigious 2006 AT&T Industrial Ecology Faculty Fellowships and was
instrumental in establishing a new Bren School collaboration in the field Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
“LCA assessments are data-intensive, and a lack of data is a main obstacle to bringing LCA into wider use” says Geyer. “GaBi4 is
one of the world’s two benchmark systems for accessing the relevant data sets. We can now present LCA not just theoretically, but
by teaching students the extremely valuable skill of conducting software-based LCAs.”
“It is really exciting. Our partners are the world leaders in LCA, and our association with them has the potential to propel us to
the forefront of the field in the U.S.”

PE INTERNATIONAL supports Bayer Climate Check
|
|
| |
|
Bayer has launched a corporate-wide „Climate Program“ to reduce its CO2 emissions in in-house production even further and develop
new solutions for climate protection and for climate change. One project is the „Bayer Climate Check“ for production processes.
For the first time, the „Bayer Climate Check“ will not only be used to assess production systems, but also for the raw materials
and energy used for production and the entire logistics chain up to the gate of the plant.

As Paul Dickinson, CEO of CDP, has previously mentioned, there are significant national differences in the response to the annual
CDP questionnaires.
