PE INTERNATIONAL has partnered with organizations whose missions and goals align with our own values and vision of a more transparent and responsible business community for a sustainable future.
PE INTERNATIONAL is the first accredited Carbon calculation partner of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). The CDP is an independent non-profit organization that holds the largest database of corporate climate change data in the world. Launched in the year 2000, 2,500 organizations from over 60 countries are now disclosing their greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies through the CDP. PE INTERNATIONAL’s mature sustainability software solution SoFi successfully passed vigorous testing by the GHG Management Institute on behalf of the CDP. SoFi was found to be consistent with the GHG Protocol, the leading international standard in carbon accounting.
CDP is delighted to be working with PE INTERNATIONAL as a Carbon calculation Partner. SoFi has undergone testing by a third party to ensure it meets our criteria for performance and we are pleased to recommend this tool in the calculation of carbon emissions. The task of the German Sustainable Building Council is to point out and advance paths and solutions for sustainable building. This includes the planning of buildings, but also their construction and operation. The DGNB considers itself to be the central German organization for exchange of knowledge, professional training, and for a raising public awareness for this future-oriented part of the building sector. The focus of the DGNB is on awarding the certification for sustainable building. Being amongst the driving forces to initiate the DGNB, PE INTERNATIONAL strongly supports and essentially shaped the development of the German Sustainable Building Certificate. Johannes Kreißig, Director Sustainable Construction at PE INTERNATIONAL, is one of the CEOs and the DGNB:
Sustainable building means to build intelligently: The focus is on a comprehensive quality concept that serves the building and real estate sectors, as well as society in general. Sustainable properties are beneficial to the environment, conserve resources, comfortable and healthy for their users, and fit optimally into their socio-cultural surroundings. In the same way, they stand for economic efficiency and long-term value-retention. Sustainable properties are cost effective due to their lower operation and maintenance costs. The manageable additional planning and construction costs will usually amortize in a few years.

PE INTERNATIONAL is an Organizational Stakeholder of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and we support its mission. The GRI is a network-based organization that has pioneered the development of the world’s most widely used sustainability reporting framework. This framework sets out the principles and indicators that organizations are using to measure and report their economic, environmental, and social performance. PE INTERNATIONAL’s sustainability software solution, SoFi, can generate flexible GRI reports based on company priorities and communication objectives.
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) is the most widely used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions. A decade-long partnership between the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the GHG Protocol is working with businesses, governments, and environmental groups around the world to build a new generation of credible and effective programs for tackling climate change. Following the success of the Corporate Standard and Project Protocol, the WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol is developing two new standards for
The new GHG Protocol standards will provide a standardized method to inventory the emissions associated with individual products across their full life cycles and of corporate value chains, taking into account impacts both upstream and downstream of the company’s operations.
Development of the Standard and PE INTERNATIONAL Involvement
To develop the new standards, the GHG Protocol is following a multi-stakeholder process with participation from businesses, policymakers, NGOs, academics and other experts and stakeholders from around the world.
PE INTERNATIONAL is involved in the process by participating in working groups for both standards, the Scope 3 Standard and the Product Standard.

Since the Life Cycle Association of New Zealand (LCANZ) was established in June 2009 PE INTERNATIONAL is a corporate member of the organisation. LCANZ is a special interest group open to everyone interested in environmental footprinting. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Carbon Footprinting are increasingly being used in industry and government to measure and demonstrate the environmental impacts of products and services.
LCANZ’s mission is to provide a focal point for Life Cycle Assessment and Management work conducted in New Zealand. It’s their aim to promote networking and knowledge sharing between organisations and people. Promoting and raising the awareness of Life Cycle Thinking amongst the wider public and business is another key goal of LCANZ.
Barbara Nebel, Managing Director of PE Australasia and President of LCANZ, says "Establishing LCANZ is a important step towards raising awareness, building a community of interest, sharing information and ensuring more effective coordination of product related assessments in New Zealand”.

By use of the round table, founded December 12, 2001, a board to support the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development in regulating sustainable building in the federation has been established.
In addition to PE INTERNATIONAL, representatives of associations of the building industry, the general industry (of the partners participating in the building), as well as representatives of the main building authorities and science are members of the round table and apply their expertise to it.
Furthermore, the round table established work groups to work on different key issues. Their results are discussed in the meetings which constantly take place and are used to set new task goals. All obtained knowledge then becomes integrated into the revision of the existing guideline sustainable building as well as into the national certification system.

By doing so, business, as a primary agent driving globalization, can help ensure that markets, commerce, technology and finance advance in ways that benefit economies and societies everywhere.
The Global Compact exists to assist the private sector in the management of increasingly complex risks and opportunities in the environmental, social and governance realms. By partnering with companies in this way, and leveraging the expertise and capacities of a range of other stakeholders, the Global Compact seeks to embed markets and societies with universal principles and values for the benefit of all.
As a member Global Compact PE INTERNATIONAL commits to organise its business operations according to the UN Global Compact and the Ten Principles which are a part of PE INTERNATIONAL’s strategy, culture and day-to-day operations.
Long-term developments in environmental policy and the desire of the financial services industry to take on more responsibility for a sustainable, environmentally-friendly business development, led to the foundation of the Verein für Umweltmanagement in Banken, Sparkassen und Versicherungen e.V. (VfU) in 1994. The VfU is the only European association that focuses exclusively on environmental management questions in the financial services industry. The association is a forum for the industry-specific exchange of opinions and information.
PE INTERNATIONAL’s sustainability software solutions are the established standard in the German financial services industry. Our customers include leading institutions such as Allianz, DekaBank, KfW Banking Group and Munich Re.

Human impacts on freshwater systems can ultimately be linked to human consumption and water shortages and pollution can be better understood and addressed by considering production and supply chains as a whole. It is increasingly acknowledged that local water depletion and pollution are often closely tied to the structure of the global economy. Many countries have significantly externalised their water footprint, importing water-intensive goods from elsewhere. This puts pressure on the water resources in the exporting regions, where too often mechanisms for wise water governance and conservation are lacking. Not only governments acknowledge their role in achieving a better management of water resources, also businesses and public-service organisations increasingly recognize their role in the interplay of actors involved in water use and management.
PE INTERNATIONAL is a member of the Water Footprint Network that brings together in a structural way developers of methods and tools and institutions that seek application. In order to coordinate efforts to further develop and disseminate knowledge on water footprint concepts, methods and tools, a number of institutions have taken the initiative to establish a Water Footprint Network. Unique to the network is that it brings together partners from diverse origins: knowledge institutions, non-governmental sector, private sector, governments and UN.
Waste prevention has been assigned the highest priority under European waste management law. However, the initiatives which have been taken so far have not reduced the regular annual increase in total waste arisings across Europe; we are still some way from achieving sustainable use of resources. That’s why the European Union started ZeroWIN, a project "Towards Zero Waste in Industrial Networks".
PE INTERNATIONAL is a official partner of ZeroWIN and will support the methodological part of the project with its extensive know how in environmental assessment methods and tools. Also PE coordinates work package 4. Beside this the practical experiences from regularly consultancy with industry and companies makes PE an essential supporter in accompanying some of the case studies including outline definition, case study progress and final assessment and its dissemination.
