The comparison of a conventional tire using carbon black filling material with a newly developed tire using silicic acid/hydrosilicon filling material was carried out using Life-Cycle-Assessment (LCA). By including the economic data for both products, the study can be easily extended to Life-Cycle-Engineering.

On this occasion, the question was raised whether the application for the new filling material for tire manufacture essentially contributes to the reduction of fuel consumption or if the problem was merely shifted (Trade off Analysis).
