PE International's newly-developed assessment approach, eco2 EoL evaluation services, enables an ecological-economic assessment of disposal systems with an emphasis on recycling and disposal and the avoidance of multi life cycle allocation of environmental benefits through gained recycling materials. The approach is based on the compilation of a reference system, which both defines the evaluation scale and enables the ecological-economic comparison of EoL alternatives. The adoption of this method promotes:
- A time and cost-effective evaluation of disposal alternatives
- Accordance with the requirements of the Act for Promoting Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management, for example, reuse before refuse.
- An objective, ecological analysis based on Life Cycle Assessment/Engineering (LCA/LCE), avoiding multi life cycle allocation or credit allocations through system expansion.
- Transparent, interpretable and well communicated calculation and presentation of results: the results are graphically presented in the eco2 Recycling graph.
- The comparison of all disposal alternatives, including incineration and land-filling, and with the logistics of each considered.
